Children's Sunday School
Children’s Sunday School is held weekly mid-September through the end of May during the Worship service. The class includes Bible stories, interactive games, drama, and crafts that emphasize the lesson for the week. It is held in a one-room classroom format, with activities for younger and older students.
Adult Sunday School
Study Group at Centenary meets at 9:15 A.M. on Sunday mornings from September until the end of May. All interested individuals are invited to attend. The format allows for anyone to participate or join at any time.
We gather as a group with the intention of deepening our faith and understanding by learning from and listening to each other. “The United Methodist Church does not ask you to leave your intellect at the door but rather encourages you to study the Bible, read widely, discuss theology, ask questions and grow in your faith. “
For the Adult Study Group, the general format is to have a brief “guest speaker” via a DVD or the Internet and then to share as we consider how it relates to our own perceptions and beliefs.
The goal is not consensus or agreement, but rather an opportunity to express our concerns, challenges, and experiences. We ask questions and listen respectfully to each other in the knowledge that this process leads us to greater clarity and understanding of ourselves, others, and to transformation as Christians in our contemporary world.
Christian Men's Group
The Centenary Men’s Club meets at 6 PM on the 4th Tuesday of each month for dinner, a program and devotions, from September through June. We take turns cooking and providing evening devotions for each meeting and then end our season with a cook-out/picnic in June. We have a variety of programs including church related topics, topics of local concern, and other topics suggested by the Men’s Club members.
Some examples of past topics include: Haiti Mission Trips, Church Finance, Lake Michigan UMC Camp, Lake Michigan Shipwrecks, Michigan Cougars, Sailing Adventures and the Lake Winds Energy Park. We provided support for Church related needs with funds left over from the donations for our evening meal. A recent example is our donation to the Ludington UM Church for the Haiti Mission Trips and Youth Camp Scholarships.
All Centenary men and/or friends of the Church are invited to attend our meetings. Please contact George Richey, current Club President, at (231) 869-2474 or the Church office, if you would like further information about the Club.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for souls.
